I am Professor of Economics at the Bordeaux School of Economics (University of Bordeaux) and a Visiting Fellow of the Dept of Political Economy, at the Università Cattolica of Milan. I am editor of Regional Studies and sit in the editorial boards of Research Policy and Industrial & Corporate Change.

My main research interests relate to knowledge creation and diffusion. Past research addressed innovation adoption, the geography of knowledge flows, and the role on Intellectual Property in academic science (see KEINS and ESF-APE-INV projects and related datasets).

My recent research focuses on Migration and Innovation and I am now a Fellow of the Institute Convergence Migrations. Past and current projects include TKC, with Ernest Miguelez, and DOC-TRACK, with - among others - Catalina Martinez and Guido Buenstorf. I have also edited a special issue of Research Policy and a book, joint with Andrea Morrison and forthcoming with Edward Elgar.

I enjoy teaching at all levels. I recently set up, with Bordeaux colleagues Héléna Lamouliatte-Schmitt and Eric Rougier, a new undegraduate degree in International Economics, largely in English and with an intensive exchange programme.

I commute between Bordeaux and Milan, and I keep bicycles in both locations. Cycling is the fastest and cleanest way to move around the city, and deserves support. It is also a great outdoor activity. All colleagues who love cycling and need advice during their stay in Milan or Bordeaux can take a look at my cycling tips and contact me at any time.
